Weapon dates bowhead whale to 1800

A bowhead whale was killed off the coast of Alaska in May. While slaughtering the whale they discovered the tip of a bomb lance fragment in the whales bone between the neck and shoulder. Scientists think the whale survived a previous attempt to harpoon the whale in the late 1880's. The bomb lance fragment was produced around 1880 which helped date the whale, estimated between 115 and 130 years old. You can read the full story on CNN.
