Grill

How long does it take to grill a frozen hamburger on a frozen grill? I'll wait inside while you cook dinner.

Frozen flowers

Mother Nature coated these fall flowers with a fresh coat of ice.

Holly

We were lucky the snow and ice only made a brief stop in our neighborhood. We have a row of Nellie Stevens Hollies behind the house and I took this picture one morning before I went to work.

New house with snow

They finished building the new house across the street. It was funny watching them put down the sod, one minute the yard was all brown dirt and 30 minutes later it was covered in green grass. The next day they put in the driveway just before it snowed.

Sunoco Gas Pump

I don't know how long ago this gas pump was functional but I'll bet a gallon of gas cost less than a dollar, the station attendant checked your oil and the air pressure in your tires. Those were the days.

Cyclone rake

This year the oak trees hung onto their leaves longer than any previous year. Scott gave 2 hours of his time to help me clean up the yard. When it's time to get rid of leaves we don't play around. The John Deere tractor pulling the Cyclone Rake makes quick work of the leaves. Usually I bag the shredded leaves and the trash company hauls them away. This year the pickup was before the leaves fell and then we had snow and rain. The yard is leaf free but I have a huge pile of shredded leaves. I spoke to one contractor about they leaves and he said he was so busy he couldn't remove the leaves before spring.

Golfer4

I walked over to the tee box and asked the next foursome if I could take some pictures, they agreed. This was the first time I tried to capture a golf swing, and just to make if difficult the camera was set to single shot. Two of the pictures I captured showed the golfer just after he had struck the golf ball. Beginners luck, I think not! The picture was taken on one of the many golf courses in The Villages, Florida.

Bathrooms

Would you believe these are bathrooms? The colors remind me of the scene in Mr. Blandings Builds his Dream House where Myrna Loy tells the painter the color to paint each room. She describes each shade of paint in detail but after she walks away the builder and painter agree she wanted, yellow, blue, green, white, etc.

Lizard

With temperatures in the upper 70's the lizards were checking out the pool. This lizard stopped just long enough to tell me his uncle Al E. Gator was in the golf course water hazard.

Chevrolet golf cart

There is a custom golf cart for everyone, you can have that Chevy, Ford, Cadillac, Hummer, etc. The local dealers will customize a golf cart to suit your taste and your budget. A custom golf cart can easily set you back more than $10,000 dollars (US).

Golf cart row

When you move to The Villages Florida, they tell you many of the residents sell their second car and use a golf cart to get around. Every night you will see rows of golf carts parked at the square. These golf carts are rather plain in appearance, I'll have pictures of some custom carts in the next couple of days.

I flew Southwest but I ended up in Florida, that's the last time I fall asleep in an airplane!

Red White Blue and Yellow

I've been in Chestertown Maryland numerous times and one thing the residents are is patriotic ... and very democratic.

I saw this flag display when I drove through Chestertown Maryland.

Red Red Leaves

Hydrant with leaves

This hydrant stands guard in the neighborhood waiting to be placed into service at a moments notice. Seasons pass, leaves fall, dogs pee and rust sets in around the edges. A hydrant is a sign of a modern civilization, no hydrant means no public water and higher insurance costs for the homeowners. So take care of the neighborhood hydrant because it just might take care of you some day.

Z door is open, and it looks like the orange cord used to close the door is out of service.

Red berries

Very red berries found laying in the leaves and rocks along the stream.

Birdbox

Why paint the bird box? Were they trying to hide the box from the birds or hide it from the raccoon? I give up.

Glass wall

When you live outside the city you don't come across too many buildings with glass walls. I wanted to get a picture that reflected the clouds in the glass of the building. This picture is underexposed on one side and over exposed on the other, I'll have to learn from my mistake and do better next time.

Shutters

This shot is looking up a wall but the whole image seems to fall away from the viewer. I think it's because the shutters converge in the middle, like an inverted letter "V".

Abandoned railcar

This old railcar has seen better days. When I see something like this I always wonder how long it took before all the windows were broken? The whole rail system in the United States has seen better days, our fastest trains are years behind the trains used in Europe. Some day, when the US dollar is stronger, I'll make it to Europe and ride one of those high speed trains.

Railroad switch

Does green mean go on a rail line that is no longer used? Did you know our traffic lights use red and green because those colors were already used by the railroads, so why did the railroads select those colors?

Linvilla Orchard Juggler

A very very tall juggler entertains at Linvilla Orchard. I stood under the juggler to get this picture and just after I moved he dropped one of the clubs right where I used to be!

Red Leaves

The fall colors in Southern Pennsylvania stink! I don't know if it's the global warming, the lack of rain in September, etc., whatever it is, the colors stink. I see trees with green leaves, brown leaves and no leaves. I guess I need a road trip north to see good fall colors.

Linvilla Orchard

Carol and I went to Linvilla Orchard. I'd never been there and Carol had a childhood memory of going to the orchard as a child. Well, it's become very commercial since Carol's last visit. To walk in the corn maze or hay bale maze, shoot apples with a sling shot or take a hay ride required money but the parking was free. I had a nice time and took a lot of pictures but it's not a trip I need to repeat in the near future.

Splash Truck

The rain storm ended hours earlier but the fields continued draining water across the road. Cars came to a complete stop and inched through the water. None of the trucks slowed down for the water and this pickup truck pulling a horse trailer was no exception. Splash on cowboy!

Soccer Geese

With the 3 inches of rain and the soccer fields under water the geese decided to take over the fields. I had the wrong lens on the camera to get a good picture of the geese. The high ground was in short supply and this was as close as I could get to the geese without getting my feet soaked. Tomorrow you'll see why it was worth getting my feet wet.

No Soccer Today

We had 3 inches of rain in two days, it will be a long time before these soccer fields dry.

Go too fast, brake too hard and the leaves will slide your bike sideways into the fence.

Net crossing

Team 10 tackles the net crossing in an Adventure Race. The team was handed a paper with instructions to carry a bucket across the net. The bucket was full of walnuts and sitting next to a bin of walnuts. One team member asked the official is she could remove some of the walnuts from the bucket. The official said "yes." Then the team member asked if all the walnuts could be removed from the bucket? Again the official said "yes." It paid to ask questions ... all the other teams I watched carried the full bucket across the net.

I'm not sure why the farmer tied the twine into this knot but the spider found it useful.

A cool treat on a hot day. Sadly the warm days of summer and the Indian summer temperatures are behind us. I'm see a mug of hot cider in my future.

Colorful Seamus Kennedy

A very colorful Seamus Kennedy entertains the crowd. I wonder if he got dressed in the dark, his ensemble pretty much covered every color in the rainbow. Seamus is one of the popular singers at the Celtic Classic.

Singing in the rain

Boys and girls from the McDade School of Dance put on a show for the crowd at the Celtic Classic. For this dance they used umbrellas and rain coats for a rendition of singing in the rain.

Airplane

Another lunch at the Valley Forge park, another day taking pictures of the radio controlled airplanes. This picture looks fake, like I posed the plane in front of wallpaper with clouds but this plane was flying at the park.
